While I'm not ruling out the father of Elizabeth NEWTON aka Wada Missouri b. 1758 in the Santee River region having been Otoe-Missouri, I believe her mother probably was a Catawba Woman, for two reasons: Elizabeth Newton / Wada Missouri was born in what was Catawba (Eastern Sioux) land at the time, and when the Catawba reservation was set up in 1763, one of the towns was named "Turkey Head" and the other "Newton" and this may explain why she took the name NEWTON.

"Newton was the name given to the principal village of the Catawba (Eastern Sioux) in the Reservation est. ca 1763 on both sides of the Catawba River, present day Lancaster and York Counties SC. The other village, on the other side of the River, was Turkey Head."
