Hi. I can't comment on how *your* first John Wesley came to be named, but it was very common to have names repeat. In my family, the name John Henry or Henry __ have been pretty common. I read on a website that there was a pattern to the naming... This child was named for the paternal grandfather, that child was named for the maternal grandmother, this one for the maternal aunt, etc. Basically, what I'm saying is that once a given name had been introduced into a family, it was quite common for it to cycle into many future generations. It may have been a way to show respect to the various family members. Having a naming pattern set up beforehand probably also took some of the naming pressure off of the parents of large families. When you end up with a family of 12 or 15 children, your originality might start to run a little thin at some point. Anyway, it's something to keep in mind. Ronda
