Nancy,
I don't know if your still researching your Childress family in the Atlanta area, but just tonight, I was looking through the Civil War map book I recently purchased. In this book is the whole of Atlanta. The only time I have ever seen a plantation for Childress was the one in Cascade Heights that we had discussed, which would have originally been Henry County, then Dekalb and lastly, Fulton County. However, when I traced the old roads around the area (still called) Buckhead, which was then, "Buck Head" (literally for a Buck's head which marked the place) I saw to the left of "Bucks Head" the name, CHILDRESS.I was very surprised. This place in still in NW Atlanta. Now the year would have been before the Civil War, prior to 1860.Buckhead today is in Fulton County, GA.It is off Peachtree Road. Since your Jesse Childress was in GA before the Civil War, could this newly found "Childress" have been in your family? The names on this map were who lived where and their farms and or planations.Let me know.
