Hi Barbara,
Betty Willoughby is an authority of this branch of Childress, have you written her?I had mentioned "Childress Chatter" Ed. Molly Reigard, who is deceased, but the publications had data from the "Douglas Register" which were abstracts, "William Childress, father of James, born 1773."I would need to locate the abstract to be positive. I firstly saw mention of a Martha in the printed book at the National Archives, East Point GA - DAR INDEX for William Childress and Martha, last name"Lowther".I've never seen microfilm on him for his ARW records, only the William's who applied for pension.
The only wills/intentories I have for any William Childers/Childress were in the "Childers/Childress Will Book", by Childers/Childress Family Association. These are abstracted along with original copies.I also have other wills (original copies) but not for a William other than the book.
Please also check 2003 Childress Research-List archives for messages regarding the "Douglas Register".I understand it can be purhcased I understand.I would check google.com and see if they have a listing for it.
Also, the William Childress and Ann Burton Childress Easley marriage produced many descendants (as you know) and this branch connects thru their descendant's to David Childress who married the Gaines and also lived in Sullivan Co TN. Both descendants of William and David married Gaines. David was the youngest brother of John Childress of Nashville Tn who left the 1810c Will.John had two wives, Elizabeth Armstrong, daug of William Armstrong and Nancy Ann Hickman.David Childress and John Childress were sons of Mary Farmer and Henry Childers/ress of Lunenburg Co VA.See also "Notable Southern Families" (Gaines)
Hope this helps and if you locate a will for William Childress who married the Martha Lowther, please let me know.It was said they had John and James as sons. (Douglas Register) - But as I said, I don't know this William's conection if any, to the William who married Ann Burton.Have you heard anything new in this regard? Thanks again!
