Meredith Childress' second wife was my 3rd great grandmother Louisa McGraw White Childress Edgar. She was the daughter of Cornelius McGraw and Elizabeth Hundley. Meredith's first wife was Cerena Harmon daughter of Samuel Harmon.

Samuel's will dated 4/30/1844 lists his heirs as the children of my daughter Cerena w/o Meredith Childress: David, Samuel, Annis, Robert S., John Wesley, Caroline, Levi Harmon, and Cerena Childress, Samuel's daughter Cerena had just died 4/14/1844. Samuel died in 1846.

According to a publication of the Skipwith Historical and Genealogical Society about the Harmontown Community of Lafayette County: "Samuel Harmon who came from Newberry County (S. C.)had one daughter, Cerena who married Merridith Childress and had the following children: David, Samuel, Annis, Robert Smith, John Wesley, Levi Harmon, and Caroline Childress."

Emma Childress was the daughter of Meredith and Louisa McGraw Childress. She was born about 1848. In the 1850 census, she was age 2 and living with Louisa, Louisa's parents, and Louisa's children Rebecca Elizabeth White and George W. White. In 1860 Emma, age 12, was living with Louisa "Edgar", George White and his bride Sarah Allen. In probate records, her guardian is W. B. McGraw, who is the brother of Louisa.

I have most of the publications of the Skipwith Historical and Genealogical Society including Probate Records, Marriage Bonds, Cemetery Records, Wills, 1850 and 1860 Census records, and 20 years of their publication. The Childress and Harmon families are mentioned often. Have you seen the letters written to and from the Childress family members? Some information I copied into my records to help document my family but I will be glad to look up and send you additional information. I owe it to you because if Meredith had not been kind enough to leave something to his stepdaughter Rebecca Elizabeth and refer to her as his wife's daughter by her first husband, I might never have made the connection.

Please get in touch and let me know what information I can send you.
