Gary, Thanks for your response. I talked with my mother today and got osme further information. Andrew Jackson Childress had at least two sons, Arthur and Robert Lee (my grandfather) and Robert's wife's name was Della Maude Hankins, with Hankins probably being a prior marriage name rather than a maiden name. My mother said that my father, Jack had two half-sisters named Ina Hankins, who never married, and who died in Bolivar, TN, and another half-sister named Helen Hankins who married Ben McKnight sometime in the early 1940s and lived in Georgia. Helen and Ben had two sons, James and Bill McKnight. Bill still lives somewhere in South Carolina. Interestingly enough, my mother also said that although my grandfather was tall (6'4" like my dad (6'5"), that Robert's brother Arthur was short and burly with dark hair (like my dad's). She also added that Andrew Jackson Childress was also a brickmason who built chimneys and left his initails in each chimney that he built. Multi-talented individual!!We believe that he came to Tennessee originally from the Carolinas.
Happy hunting!
