Mary Jean:
It could be either or, but on Lucinda's death cert. her father's name was Joel Childers and on the 1850 census it was Joel Childers, but 1840 index was copyed as Chilton. His children went by Childers. The Prince Edwards Co.,Va census index has them as Childers. I am just now tackling this line and I have not dug far enough into this line to see what records show other than what I have told you.

I found a Bible record on the net of John Childers born 1791 and living in Pulaski co., Ky.
Other names in this record are Childris, Childreford and Childers. This John married #1 Rhoda and #2 Elizabeth Smith w/o John Smith. John Childers left will in Knox Co., Ky 1859. He had a son Holbert who married Marry Parry in Knox Co., Tn. 1866.
Do you know of this connection?
Thanks,
Margaret
