I was viewing tombstones just today at Beersheba Presb. Church, west of York,SC. the older stones say Childress. Less older stones say Childres. Stones from mid-1800's say Childers. All of them in same proximity, indicating to me they are the same family. It's as if the name has evolved, as is common with other names also.By the way, I am researching the lineage of Sarah Artie Missy Childers Wray (known as Artie) b.7-20-1861, d. 5-17-1926. Married Robert Eli Wray.
It APPEARS she was dau. of George Washington Childers, but haven't verified this yet. Anyone with info on her part of the Childers family, I sure would appreciate the help.Ricky
