We are researching the Childers and the Drury Johnson family in hope to find our Jenkins ancestors. My husband is related to the Childers and he and I have put much research into his Childres family from North Carolina down into Murray and Gordon Counties Georgia. Many of the Childers family are associated witht the early Cherokee people and the Vann and Hubbard and Wilkerson families from Murray, Gordon, Cherokee, Hall and Forysth Counties Georgia. Many of this family also went west on the "Trail of Tears". I am cousins to the Eliza Jenkins and Henry A. Johnson family decendants. We have been tracking them in hopes to find Eliza's father John Jenkins which is my 3rd Great Grandfather, and any of the Jenkins and Johnson family that might could help us. We have Eliza Jenkins living in the houshold of her Father John S. Jenkins in Morgan Co. AL in 1870 and in 1880 Eliza and Henry A. Johnson are married and still living in Morgan County. We have gotten a copy of her and Henry's marriage certiicate from Morgan Co. AL. Eliza Jenkins and Henry A. Johnson got married in Morgan Co. AL in September 7, 1876, with witnesses Henry Johnson and W. A. Childers. The 1880 census is the last time we know of Eliza (Jenkins) Johnsons and her father John S. Jenkins. We cannot find Henry or Eliza or John S. Jenkins in 1900?? We have tracked her husband Henry A. Johnson and his family from Murray Co. Georgia and have him living there in 1860 showing age 2, with his parents Nathaniel and Mary Johnson. With his grandfather Drury Johnson living nextdoor. Drury Johnson and his wife Nancy and his son Nathaniel and his wife Mary show all to be from North Carolina. This is were the John Jenkins family were also from. There is possibility that the Jenkins and Johnson family knew each other before Henry A. ans Eliza were married in Alabama. The Drury Johnson (Henry A. Johnson granddad) family apparently started out in North Carolina and came down through South Carolina and we found Nathan Johnson and family in Oglethorpe Co. GA in 1850, then they migrated on over to Murray and then on to Blount County, AL ,and then on to Morgan County AL. Then in 1870 we find the Nathaniel (Nathan) Johnson family in Blount county Alabama with Henry A. showing age 12. John S. Jenkins also took land in Blount County, AL (cannot recall year). So the Jenkins and Johnsons appartently knew each other and traveled together. Then we found Henry and some of the children in Dallas Texas in 1910 and 1920. But have been unable to locate them in 1900? She has them in 1880 in Morgan County Alabama and her father John Jenkins is also in Morgan County then. Since there is no 1890 census due to a federal fire, it makes it hard to locate some family. It is possible they are in Logan Co. Arkansas or Prentiis Co. Mississippi near Booneville, her sister Sara Adaline Jenkins who married James T. Cobbs went that route. I have noticed the Childers connection in the Johnson line, my husband is also realted to the Childers from North Carolina and Georgia also. In 1850 in Murray Co. Georgia we find Lucy Johnson age 16 shown as the daughter of Drury Johnson, Sr. And her brother Nathaniel the father of Henry A. is also shown to be age 21 not married yet, in the same household. This Lucy Johnson marries a W.W. Childers and is shown in the 1860 Murrary Co. GA census. Then in the 1880 Morgan County Alabama census we found a Nancy Childers age 36 and Sarah Childers age 73 living with Eliza and Henry. If anyone has any insight and research on any of these families please contact me, will be glad to share what I have if it will help someone.
