Donald,
I did more Childers research at the library on land, deeds and court records (focusing on Wilkes and in GA).There were 3 Childers households in Wilkes (Mitchel, John and Miller/Millner) during 1780-1800.Miller/Millner Childers was in Wilkes NC 1790 censues and he obtained land in 1795.In 1805, a Willis Childers obtained land in Wilkes NC.I seems that John, Mitchel, Millner and Willis were related, regardless of the Childers/Childress spellings debate. The surname of these men changed spellings back and forth in the court/deed and other records numerous times.
The Willis Childers who obtained land in 1805 is too old to be your Willis.I think he may have been a younger brother of Millner.I also think the older Wiley in GA was another brother (or cousin).By 1820, Millner is the ONLY Childers household in Wilkes County. As a result:
I think that Willis, John, Rachel and Elizabeth were Millner's children in addition to Wiley and Sarah whom he listed.I also now think that Catherine born c1795 (David Wilkey's wife married c1817 and my 3g grandmother) was a Childers because of numerous connections (can't prove it yet):David Wilkey was marriage bondsman for both Willis and John; David Wilkey witnessed Millner's pension application; David and Catherine Wilkey moved to Hall GA c1838 the same time Millner and Sarah moved; David and Catherine lived in Hall near Wiley, Millner and Sarah in 1840; Millner Childers lived near the Mourning Wilkey family in 1790 back in Wilkes County (David's widow mother); David and Catherine named a son Wiley and a daughter Sarah, and a grandson was named Willis.
Let me know your thoughts.
