Susan:

I found on Rootsweb this evening that Jane CHILDERS, d/o Lewis and Clarinda ? CHILDERS was the second wife of Lemuel ALLRED, s/o Andrew ALLRED, Jr., and Lucinda FORTNER ALLRED. The children shown for them on the transcription of the 1880 Blount County, AL, census that is online are:

Martha ALLRED, age 6, born in AL;
William ALLRED, age 4, born in AL;
C. A. (have seen Charles elsewhere) ALLRED, age 1, b. AL.

On that same census, Lemuel ALLRED is shown as age 47, a farmer, born in AL, both parents born in TN. His wife, Jane, was shown as age 36, born in AL, both parents born in SC. According to what is online, Lemuel ALLRED's first wife was Nancy Delitha MURPHREE and they were married in Blount County, AL, 20 Nov 1856. From this, I would surmise that Lemuel ALLRED probably had grown children in 1880 by his first wife. In one place, it is stated that Jane CHILDERS and Lemuel ALLRED were married in 1872 in Lawrence County, AL, and another person stated that they were married in 1872 in Cullman County, AL. I have no way of knowing which is correct.

Lemuel and Jane CHILDERS ALLRED were living next to William H. CATHA (CATHEY) when the 1880 census was taken in Blount County, AL, and Lewis and Clarinda CHILDERS were also living next to William H. CATHEY. I'm still looking for the connection between Lewis and Clarinda CHILDERS and William H. CATHEY (CATHA).
