Childers is an English name. There were many variations in the spelling of the name. I wont go into that now.It is an ancient Anglo-Saxon name, which probably originated in the old Germanic language from which English itself evolved. The frist hint of the name was in the Frankish name "Childrec I" he was leader of a Germanic tribe of Franks from 436 to 481 A.D.The old Germanic meaning of the name was "Battle Ruler". The first definite record of the name in England was Isabel de Childers, which appeared in the Close Rolls of County York during the reign of King Henry III (1216-1272).
