My feelings exactly. I'm always shocked when I see the name of another Childerhose, who isn't a cousin, in print - it's hard to believe there's so many of us out there. Growing up with Childerhose as a surname was always a challenge - surely a familiar experience to many. It spawned plenty of teasing and mispronuniciations (has anyone started a list yet? Childrenhose, Childerhouse, Childerhorse, Kinderhosen ...), and I can remember feeling acutely embarrassed as a child when someone called it out. I still stumble over its pronunciation from time to time!
