Elmer Anderson says there was one John Chridster in the census of 1810 Sunbury, Northumberland County Pennsylvania. Elmer says Chridster is Chidester and the census taker made an error. John moved to Harrison County, West Virginia, 1820 census. John Peter Chiddister, Chidester, Chedester went to Albia, Monroe, Iowa about 1845. It seems plausible that John was the father of Henry Chidester, but cannot prove it

Gaberial Cooper Chidester, states, Henry, Sara and family moved to Wayne County, Ohio in 1811.

From Margarett, wife of Dale William Chidester, dated March 19, 1982. Living at 1337 East 11th Street, Salem, Ohio, 44460, Phone 330-337-6587
She says Henry moved to Mount Eaton, southwest of Wooster sometime between 1820 and 1830. In the Wooster Courthouse they found the deed recorded where he purchased his blacksmith shop and five lots from Mears Weed & Jones, who established an iron foundry in 1827. The lot numbers are listed in an old Platt drawing. She noted the names of the alleys and streets on U.S. Route 250 just west of the center of Mount Eaton. They found Henry's gravestone marker in the cemetery, she said it is hard to find because of erosion of stone around the lettering. They also state that he died at the age of 38, in 1834 and they believe of a cholera epidemic. She said, in the Wayne County Courthouse, Wooster there is quaint handwritten records of the settlings of his estate. It took three lawyers and many years before all was complete. The calculation of his wealth was over $2000.00, so he was not a poor man when one considers the prices charged in those days. - 12 1/2 cents to make a cooking pot; 62 1/2 cents for some other blacksmithing work and the fact he payed only $109.00 for the property when he bought it, July 30, 1830. The widow and his six children $90.57 1/2 cents for their support for one year, (the custom in those days 0 plus a cow, a horse, pig, chickens, a bed, a table, garden produce and one small rocking chair.

Spoke to Sharron Chiddister January 17, 1998. She said she found a record in the "IGI". (International Genealogy Index ) Father: Henry Chichester, Mother: Eleanor Cowpland, married March 30, 1795, had son christen, Henry William Chichester April 10, 1796. Place British Isle, Saint Helen's Bishopgate, London, England.

In the census of 1880, Jeremiah Hanley says his father is from England.
Gaberial Cooper Chiddister, stated his father was a native of Glasgow, Scotland, his mother, Sara Cooper, of Amsterdam, Holland. His father died during a cholera epidemic in 1834. He was buried by Gaberial, his mother Sara and two additional relatives during the gloom of night, without an undertaker, friends, clergy, prayer or song. ( See retyped story, notes of Gaberial Cooper Chiddister )
