Janet

Yes I have a copy of James Chick's military record of Rev War service. He was a private and Corporal serving from King and Queen Co VA if I recall correctly. I will have to find it and check the details.

As for the two Jameses. I can't be sure but since there was a James Chick Jr. (b. date unknown), one was probably father and the other was the son. I suspect the Knox Co James was the elder since your ancestor married in VA in 1806 and younger sister Aley married in KY in 1813. Aley would more likely be living in KY with father than brother. That is all supposition. I don't have any facts to back it up. It could also be that son James blazed the trail to KY for the rest of the family and was there in 1810. Obviously a lot more research will be needed to solve the mystery.

I don't know about land grants, but James received a Rev War pension in 1837, in Knox Co Ky.

I hope this helps. Thanks for your information.
