MADISON CHICK was born Feb. 20, l860, in Monroe County, Iowa, and died Aug. 3, l904. MR. CHICK came to Decatur County in l868. He was married to EMMA GARDNER Dec. 24, l883. To this union were born five children, GEORGE, PEARL, MABEL, BERTHA and VIOLET. VIOLET preceded her father to the spirit land.
He leaves a wife and four children and many friends to mourn his loss. He was a member of the Woodmen Camp here, also of the Methodist Church. C.C. Wilkins, local Pastor, delivered the funeral sermon.
He was made a Mason in Banner Lodge No. 437, A.F. & A.M. March 5, l90l, and buried with Masonic honors August 4, l904.
The following resolutions were adopted by the Masonic Lodge.
WHEREAS: It has pleased the Supreme Grand Master of the universe in His infinite wisdom to remove from our midst our beloved brother, Madison Chick, the lodge has sustained the loss of a noble and earnest member and the brethren a kind and respected brother and the community a valued citizen.
RESOLVED: That we deeply regret the loss of so true and noble a friend and brother, but we bow our heads in resignation to the will of Him who doeth all things for the best.
RESOLVED: That we extend to his bereaved family our heartfelt sympathy in this hour of deepest sorrow.
RESOLVED: That a copy of this resolution be spread in the records and a copy be presented to the widow and a copy be furnished for publication.

LAST WILL OF MADISON CHICK:
The last will of MADISON CHICK, of Grand River Township, has been filed with Clerk Kehler for probate. It is dated August l, l904, being witnessed by J.C. Brothers, C.A. Boyd and W.H. Shields. He bequeaths to each of his children, GEORGE, PEARL, MABEL and BIRDIE, the sum of $200 each to be paid them when they become of age. To his wife EMMA CHICK, he bequeaths in fee simple the southwest quarter of the southwest quarter of his home farm, being the southwest quarter of the southwest quarter of section 16, in Grand River Township. He also gives her all of his personal property of every kind and description and the rental or income from the home farm during her life time, or during the time she shall remain unmarried. At her death or marriage the property is to be equally divided between his four children. He names his wife and Curtis A. Boyd and William H. Shields as executors of the will.
