My info on Jesse comes mainly from Goodspeed and from a book on the Hardisons. Both state that Jesse came from NORTH carolina, (Orange County,) but that comes from John Lillie possibly being born there and NOT from Jesse's known history. A Jesse Cheek ran an inn for some years at the Holston River Settlement in East TN. May have been the same person. Jesse then appears in Maury Co 1820 census.

The NC quote may be an error, or it may have been a stopover for Jesse (and Jeremiah), or we may be on the wrong track. There is NO record anywhere in NC for Jesse or Jeremiah that I could find.

Jesse's known children are John Lillie (Jackie) 1801, Eli 1804, Catherine 1814, Mary 1818, Jesse Aaron 1819, Jeremiah 1824, Jane 1825 and Elizabeth 1826 (all dates estimates...)

Later names through John Lillie include Oran (Aaron?) Pearson, Calvin Modrell, America Parthena, Martha Elizabeth, Isabelle, Van Daley, Eliza Jane, James Milton, Ida Lee, Lennis Estelle and Lillie Hiles.

If I have the right Jeremiah (Lee?), some names are similar to those in Jesse's family.

Whatcha think? Could we be onto something or just hoping?
carol
