Hi Louise; I have found Newfoundland Westcoast Genealogy site on the web very helpful. They have a wonderful compiled lists of census and parish birth, marriage and death records. I know you what not have any difficulty finding Chiassons there or Gales. My father's grandmother was a Gale (Margaret "Maggie" Anne Gale). When my grandfather was orphaned as a child he was raised by Gales. What does interest me about your query is the name (Donat)Schumph. You see my gggg-grandfather, Edward Gale was married to Saphire Shumph (s?) born in Cape Breton (?) but I have never been able to find anything similar to that name anywhere. What do you know of the Schumph in your family? The name is so similar and what I have from my brother's notes taken from may not be correct in spelling as she had had a stroke and it may have been written phonetically. That is not a very common name, especially the first name as Saphire adds some flare to it. I would appreciate any info you could give me regarding that line. As for your Chaisson and Gales, I believe if you have not yet visited the West Coast Genealogy site you will find it very helpful. Meanwhile I can ask my grandmother etc. if she knows anything about your kin. Where did they move to the Valley from? If you need the link, you can email me seprately at kendent@shaw.ca. Take care.
