Hi Sharon,
I have found several entries about the de Chevening surname listed on Ancestry.com.They were all put there by "Ancestries of Errol S. Bevan and Hollie C. Atkinson Bevan . . . "I would like more proof of this name and have done a lot more searching.I was beginning to think that other than the name of a little town in England and an English scholarship program, they might have made this name up.Well, yesterday I discovered the name listed by the Kent Archaeological Society. It was on a document called the "Kent Lay Subsidy Roll of 1334/5".The names included on that document were:Adam de Chevening, Alice de Chevening, John Chevening, Walt de Chevening, and Widow of William de Chevening. So, I am at least satisfied that the name is for real.Ever the sceptic, however, I will continue to search for more proof.
