Vicki,
I am familiar with the family lore
that Benjamin Chew married Caroline
Eastland but I have not been able to
substantiate that matter. Benjamin did
marry Mary Keck and later Elizabeth
Johnson (nee Light.) Walter Chew, son
of George, had a daughter Izora who has
what is left of an old "rat-eaten"
family bible. The bible is in very poor
condition but the names of Richard Chew
and Rachel Scarf----as well as Benjamin
Chew and Mary ..ck could be made out.
If Benjamin did marry Caroline Eastland,
it would have been of short duration
and would have likely occurred in TX---
after the older family members including
John, George, Celia, and Leanna were
born. Minnie was born In TX and could
have been from a second marriage although
anything that i have seen purports her
to be afull sibling of the others.
Benjamin & Elizabeth Light had one
son, William Benjamin Chew, who lived all
his life in and around Gonzales County
where he died and was buried in 1931.
