Hello, I have interest in the Chevalier family name. My grandmothers maiden name is Chevalier daughter of clement eugene chevalier.Clement Eugene Chevalier's father's name was clement eugene chevalier also and his sisters name was Julia chevalier . Julia Chevalier's married name was Julia Alling.Julia Chevalier had a sister named Carrie Chevalier who was never married . I do have a picture of Julia Chevalier and her sister with a nurse in Newark, New Jersey. My great grandfather clement eugene changed his name from chevallier to chevalier . He was alive during my life time . I remeber him as a boy, very little though. His death was very tramatic to me being the first family death I experienced . My mother did some family history research when I was very young . she went to newark,nj and philadelphia,pa .she searched a lot of archives in those cities. In the newark museum there is jewelry that is on display made by clement eugene chevallier . I have been told that the family originated in france or austria under the name count duroche and he was the illegitamate son of prince eugene of savoy . he supposedly left france, austria
in fear for his life and started a bannana plantation in santa domingo where he then left and came to philadelphia and became a jeweler. None of this has been proven yet. I am still searching. There are letters from a countess to her confidant saying count duroche is prince eugenes son. this is what my mother tells me. If anyone has any info concerning this message it would be greatly appeciated. thanks
phillip eugene
