In response to the posting you made over a year ago - My mother's maiden name was Chestnut. My Grandfather's name was Robert Hurley Chestnut born 1904 in Armstrong County, Pa., died 1968 same location. The family lived in the Ford City/McGrann area of Armstrong County. My Great Grandmother was Etta Reeseman Chestnut born sometime during the 1880's and died in the early 1980's, obviously well into her 90's. I don't know my Great Grandfather's name as he died before I was born. I do know that the family name had been changed from McChesney to Chestnut at some point. As to origination - I was always told that the family came from Ireland and my Great Grandmother was always described as a "wonderful old Irish lady". Coincidentally, I had an aunt, now deceased, named Violet Chestnut although not from the same lineage you described. I honestly don't know a whole lot more about the family history on my mother's side and although my mother is still living she says she doesn't know a whole lot either. This is probably of no help to you, particularly since your posting is more than a year old, but I thought it was too coincidental to pass up. If you wish to follow up, please feel free.
