Hello Keith, my wife's side of the family has Chessells - her mother was Beryl Chessell who married Hubert Downer (1946). He lived in Shorwell all his life and we have traced the Downers back to 1650 ish in Brading (where we live now). Beryl's mum was Violet Chessell and her parents were David John Chessell and Victoria Ann Moore, who both lived in Tinkler's Lane (Northwood?) before they married about 1882. If anything sounds familiar perhaps you could contact me.
