My grandfather, Frank S. Chess, compiled a Chess family history before his death (which I remember to be around 1989 or 1990). He began the history with William Chess who settled in Allegheny Co. PA in 1774. He also traces the history of Benjamin Hull, the future father-in-law of Robert Chess. Benjamin Hull is my great, great, great, great, great, great Grandfather. If you would like my grandfather's collection of notes, provide your address and I'll be happy to send a copy. My grandfather was proud that the early Chesses signed their names instead of leaving a mark, indicating that they were literate.
