Thank you for responding. I know about the Martha Nancy Sparks theory and have some doubts. A cousin and I both did a lot of Sparks family research (there is one very good Sparks Family journal) and neither of us ever found any possible connection. I'm not tossing out Sparks, but I am contuning to look for other options. A marriage record for Daniel Chesser to a Martha Sparks should settle the issue. I have discovered that there were several Daniel Chesser/Cheshire/etc around in the general time frame that I am looking for. So far all that I have found, have been eliminated as a possibility. For those that don't know, the name Daniel Chesser and his death date comes from Martha's second husband's (George Joy) War of 1812 Pension file, so from Martha herself, you might say.
