Hello Mrs. Frisby,

In the Pictoral History of Polk County Texas there is only one Cherry. It is Joe Cherry; Mount Rose School, 1907 - 1908. Sorry, there is also Florence Cherry - they were students of Miss Mit tie Parrish. I also have a book, "Sketches of Tyler County History". In it is listed a William Cherry. It is talking about "headrights" for 1842. "In addition to the two surveys above mentioned Wright also located headrights for A.F. Smith, James Barclay, William Phamplin *****, and William Cherry. In another book, Tyler County Texas Gravestone Inscriptions, there is listed: Patsy Ruth Cherry, born 8/3/1932; died ______; marr. 7/4/1950; Mt. Hope Cem. Also in this book: Preston Horace Cherry, born 4/13/1926, died 2/28/1994; marr. 7/4/1950; Mt. Hope Cem. I found out about another book, "Newton Nuggets" about Newton County, Texas. I haven't gotten this one yet but I am going to. The reason I mention this one is because a lot of the families that lived in Polk, Tyler, and surrounding counties at one time lived in Newton and Jasper counties. This isn't much but I hope it helps someone.

Juanita JOYCE Lewis
