Charles Dunning Cherry is listed in the 1880 census as Dunning Cherry, b. May 1880 (1/12 years old). He is the son of Dr. Eli I. J. Cherry (b. 1839) and Harried F. (Hattie) Larus (b. 1845), who were married April 13, 1864 in Henrico Co., VA.
There is no birth record for Charles Dunning Cherry, but there are other births recorded for this couple. They are listed in the VA birth index as JJ and Harriet F. Cherry.
Dr. Eli I. J. Cherry died in Berkley, Norfolk Co., VA February 08, 1896. There would be a death certificate available for him, but I don't think it listed his parents. It's possible that his parents are listed in his marriage record, but most of the marriage records for the war years (1861 - 1865) are missing.
