Cherry Family Genealogy Forum

Hello Connie, I saw your post on GenForum. I have CHERRYs as witnesses on marriage banns for my family in East Ham, Essex, England from the v.early 1800s, and suspect they *may* be related to my INGRAM or GREENHILL line, but they may just have been friends. It is probably well worth your time to get to a Mormon family history library or a family history society near your and check the indexes to the 1881 UK census. Look for Josephene and Lillian CHERRY as these were not very common names. Why not start with the index for Essex - if you find a match for any of your CHERRYs check the 'as enumerated' fiche to get the address and see who else was living there, ages, and relationships. If you still have a good match, go to that address for 1891 (not indexed by name! draattt!) and see if they were still there and if the household still matches your information. Once you have a convincing match you can trace back by ordering B-D-M certificates. I would say your chances of finding your CHERRYs are *very* good, because you have a few members of the family and some uncommon names. It may sound daunting but check all the counties if necessary. If you find your CHERRYs are from Essex, I would love to hear from you once you have some more details of the family history in England. Guy Ingram - Lismore NSW Australia
