William Leoman Cherry

Please get information straight before posting. William Leoman Cherry was born 17 Nov 1838 in Morgan Co., OH to Peter Francis Cherry and Charlotte Nesselroad Cherry. He died on 29 jan 1864 at INDIANOLA, WARREN CO IA not in Alabama. According to his Military Records he enlisted
on the 19th of August 1862 at Greenbush, Warren Co., IA in the 34th Reg't Ia Vol Inf. In 19 Aug 1863 he was in Keokuk, Lee Co., IA at the US General Hospital with Tuberculosis of right lung and was declared not fit for any kind of duty. He was discharged on the 24 of Aug 1863 at Keokuk, IA. He died at Indianola, Warren Co., IA on 29 Jan 1864 and is buried with his family (ie, father, mother, brothers) at Linn Grove Cemetery, rural Prole, Warren Co., IA. Just because the regiment was in Alabama, it dont mean he died there. He was in hospital in Iowa and discharged in Iowa. Hope this helps straighten out some misleading info for some family members.
Thanks,
Nelda Cherry Morton
