Here's what I know: Wylie Cherry, son of Joel Cherry & Nancy Allen (See another query a bout these folks), b.5-7-1805, in Lancaster, Co.,SC Moved to Hinds (or Winds) County, MS, in 1842, where he was a travelling silversmith & slave trader. Each year he went to South Carolina & bought slaves & took them to Ms where he sold them. Other ugly stories are of child abuse & abandonment. He died of TB. Another interesting side story: after his 1st wife, Matilda, died, he married a Jane Carson, a "beautiful woman" who lived in Noxubee County, MS. They had a child named Musadore (does that sound African?) who died at 13. The town where he died, Chapel Hill Church, I think about 186?,is supposed to be near or in Noxubee County. He was buried in Raymond, Hinds County, MS, next to his first wife. I am connected to him thru his marriage to Matilda & their daughter, Elvira ("Grandmother Smallwood"); her child, Leonora; her child J.W. Scott; his child Don Scott, my Dad! Clear as mud??? Good luck on your quest. Feel free to E-Mail me if you need anything else.
