Jacob Cherry first appears in the Norfolk Co., VA personal property tax records in 1813, listed between Jesse and John Cherry, indicated that he had reached the age of 16. In 1814, Jacob Cherry is listed between Jesse and James Cherry, Sr., and Jeremiah Cherry is listed as having two males over the age of 16 in his household. In 1815, the personal property tax records list Wm. M. Cherry, Amos, George, Fred, Javin, and Jeremiah Cherry, in that order. In 1816, the Norfolk Co., VA personal property tax records list Max Cherry, Jr., Amos, George, Fred, Javin, Jeremiah, and Silas Cherry. In 1817, the Norfolk Co., VA personal property tax records list Daniel, George, Fred, Javin, and Silas Cherry, indicating that Jeremiah Cherry may have died in 1817.
Siblings are listed as heirs of Javan Cherry, an enlisted soldier in the War of 1812, and a private of the 38th Regiment in the US Infantry: Ezekiel Cherry, Martha Cherry, Judith Cherry. Henry Willy is also listed. He appears to be the son of Frances Cherry and Malachi Willey, and Frances must have died by 1852, the time the affadavit was taken.
