I am looking for information on the Lemuel CHERRY and Sarah McPHERSON family of Norfolk Co., Va. They had four sons Wilson, Cary, John, and Wiley, and daughters Martha, Tamar, Sarah, Elizabeth, and Polly CHERRY. It is believed that the CHERRY family arrived in the Jackson Co., Tennessee area about 1799, after the Wilderness Wagon Road was completed in 1797, through the Gap. The first mention of Lemuel CHERRY in Tennessee was when he appeared on the 1802 Tax List. Elizabeth CHERRY was born in Jackson Co., Tennessee in 1800. In 1803, his son, John CHERRY, appears on the Tax List, therefore we know that John CHERRY was the eldest son...Martha CHERRY married to Aaron ETHERIDGE, Tamar CHERRY married to John GUEST, Sarah CHERRY married to (1) Caleb SHORT and (2) Edwin PRICE, Elizabeth CHERRY married to Hiram DENTON, Polly CHERRY married to Clinton PLUMLEE, John CHERRY married to Nancy ODLE, Cary CHERRY married to Isabelle McADOO, Wilson CHERRY married to (1) Catherine HODGE and (2) Adaline ______, and Wiley CHERRY married to Catherine _______. In 1816, Lemuel CHERRY sold 200 acres of land lying between Big Barren River and Jennings Creek to his son, Cary CHERRY, for $200.00. The deed was witnessed by John MEADOWS, Wilson CHERRY, and John CHERRY. Lemuel CHERRY's wife, Sarah McPHERSON, evidently died by 1820. Lemuel himself died sometime in December, 1829, leaving many, many descendants, many of whom STILL live in the beautiful, hilly country of Jackson County, Tennessee...
