A Sally (Cherry) King attested to the application for Rev. War pension for Rebecca Walker in Gilmer Co., GA. This Sally King said her maiden name was Cherry, that she came to Franklin Co. GA in 1790 from Pennsylvania with her parents. She was 69 years old in 1852 when she submitted her statement and said her father lived close to Elijah Walker. Elijah and Rebecca's son, West (oldest and only child) was considerably older than she was.
Elijah Walker was a Rev. War soldier from North Carolina. His widow, Rebecca Carrell Walker, applied for a penion in Gilmer Co., Georgia. She states that Elijah was drafted two years before he served and because he was engaged to be married, he hired James Thompson to serve for him. This was in Burke Co., NC. He later was drafted again and served several tours. He was in the service at the time the battle of King's Mountain was fought and about that time "was taken with smallpox." After he recovered he never went into the service again. They had only one child, West Walker. They moved to Habersham Co., Georgia about 1788. There doesn't seem to be a date of birth for Elijah but he died in 1818 or 1819 in Habersham Co., GA.
Can anyone identify the parents of Sally Cherry King? Does she have connections to George and Jesse Walker who also were in the Rev. War from Burke Co., NC. and also have ties to the Cherry family.
