I was not restarting the argument but simply giving information on the 1640 Colonial family, in case it was of interest.Nothing more. Of course it is pronounced many ways, but as this forum is for Genealogy and discussing the VP's Cheneys, and having the same anc. ofWilliam 1 (b1603) and Margaret (?Cule) Cheney of Roxbury, Ma. and son Thomas 2 andJane (Atkinson) Cheney, it would be natural to assume that this would be originally the pronouncement in 1647 MA. for it was usually written phonetically in those days. And so on for names of William Cheney of Roxbury and his descendants that remained in New England. Naturally over the next 400 years of travels and other Cheney families it will vary.
How it was pronounced in Berkshire, England,1600 -no one knows and in Berkshire today 400 years later, probably nothing like the original.
