Bill, I found his name in the necrology records of the Hugh Irish GAR Post residing in the NJ Historical Society in Newark (I am trying to document all Civil War soldiers buried in New Jersey). I then went to his military pension file in Washington, DC and found a record of his death on 4/17/1882, and burial in Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, NY. I was not interested in his family, only him, hence my lack of knowledge about them. Occasionally I obtain death certificates or pension papers for these soldiers and they will list members of the family, but in this case I did not. I wish everything could be found on websites or in books, but I'm afraid I'll never see that in my lifetime. Genealogical research still requires a fair amount of legwork.
