The source for Laura Drake Boehm who married Leroy H. Cheesman in 1909, came from Virginia (McNelley) Cheesman with whom I corresponded during the 1970's until her death in 2002. Virginia could not give me an exact date of Laura's birth other than the year 1909.
A lot of the information she shared with she got from her husband, Hugh Franklin Cheesman (1907-1998), a patent attorney, and his relatives.
I understood from Virginia that Dr. George Cheesman MD (1829-1910) was a traveling physician who made house calls on horseback, and had "married Belle Hopper, daughter of the Honorable John A. Hopper..." If I recall correctly Virginia was pretty certain Belle's maiden name was Hopper, because I had thought she wrote "Harper" in her letter and she corrected me when I sent her a copy of the page before it went into one of the annual CHEESMAN FAMILY HERITAGE (Volume 4, 1992, I believe).
Virginia was a sweet and kind lady who always wrote with a flourish. Her handwriting often ran together... like writing complete sentences without lifting her pen, which made her handwriting difficult to read, so you are probably right... I'll make a note to check my books and manuscripts to get Belle's maiden name right.
I will be traveling across country to libraries and genealogical resources in Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky over the next couple of months starting next week.
So it may be awhile before I'm back on this site... But, I'll see if I can find any data on John and Violet for you.
