Dear Linda,
Thank you for responding to my request. I would appreciate a look-up in your book collection for our branch of the Cheeseman family. The names are:
Joseph Cheeseman residing in Evesham, Burlington Co. in the early 1800's. He married Hannah Joyce in 1828(Joyce is the surname and may also be spelled Joice) .
In the 1830 and 1840 U.S. Census there are other Cheeseman households near Joseph Cheeseman. They are Nathan Cheeseman, James Cheeseman, and William Cheeseman. I believe that this William Cheeseman is the one shown in the book, History of Burlington County by Woodward. He donated land for the Methodist Church in Evesham and opened his home for religious meetings.
There may be a connection between these men. One of them may be the father of our Joseph Cheeseman. However, the collection at the Burlington Co. Library and the Burlington County Historical Society yielded very little information. The deeds did not yield any additional information. So far I have found no will for Nathan or James Cheeseman. Will for William did not show children's names. I do not know where he is buried.
Joseph and Hannah Cheeseman moved at some unknown time to Pennsylvania as their son, Wm. Henry Cheeseman, was born in Pennsylvania. We do not know the names of his siblings. Any comments or suggestions from readers would be welcome.
Regards, J.E. Shipley
