Dear Ann, There is a branch of the very early Cheeseman Family of Monmouth County that had land and lived in Middlesex County (the Amboys). However the genealogy and history books at the library did not show a direct link.
My best suggestion for the early time period is to look for church records, wills, and deeds from Middlesex and Monmouth County. Also an excellent source is the Monmouth County Historical Society in Freehold, New Jersey, (the county seat). They have a web site and will answer requests. Please let me know the results of your search. Regards, J.E. Shipley
