Hi Jack,

Don't know if this will help you or not but I did a little digging and came up with this for you.

In the 1881 Census a Sydney and Mary Cheeseman were living at 7, Walters Rd, Croydon. He was born in Southwark in 1853 and she was born in Norwood.
They had two children - Maud age 3, and Sydney aged 1, both of whom were born in Lambeth, Surrey

You may want to chase this up at the Surrey History Centre in Woking.

Good luck with the hunting,

Adam Cheeseman
