William/Edward Cheeseman in UK 1800's

Can anyone help with a family link.

My 2x great grandfather was Edward Frederick Cheeseman
born circa 1820-1835? son of William Cheeseman a bricklayer.
I have that from his marriage in 1878 in Kensington, London England, Edward was a widower so had been married before but I have no idea who to or if their were any earlier children.

Edward Cheeseman died before the 1881 census so I cannot find out where he was born. He is not in the 1871 census
at the addresses where he died, married or on his
1878+ children's birth certificates. Does anyone have a missing Edward Cheeseman in the family?

Does this sound familiar to anyone. I have traced some 210 family lines most into the 1600's but my own family name has hit this brickwall bacuse of the pre 1881 census death.

Any help here would be most appreciated.

regards
