It is very possible that there could be a connection. Most of my relatives came from County Durham. I have found a distant relative that is living in England at this time.
I would be very interested to know more about your father and grandfather. Would you send some names and dates and places of birth?
My maiden name was Cheesmond also. My great grandparents came from England. I was told by someone in England that had been helping me gather information when I first started this in March, to hold on to everything I find on the Cheesmond name, no matter how it may be spelled at the time because there will probably be a link somewhere at some time.
I have a distant relative that left for England on Monday to do some searching and site seeing.
There is a John Masterson Cheesmond born 1937 who is related. John Michael Derek Cheesmond born 1969. So I do know that there are some Johns in my family tree. (o:
There are some ancestors born in Newcastle, Merrington, Whickham etc.
