Hi Phyllis, I think that this Alexander Carr Cheek (b. 1843) must be the son of Robert H. Cheek who lived in Caswell Co., NC. Did you find a record that Alexander was born in Surry Co., NC? That is interesting. This family of Cheeks is a little confusing and I would love to clarify how they fit in. Robert H. Cheek's father James Cheek (b. abt. 1785) may be the son of James Cheek (1762), the Rev. War veteran from Orange Co., NC, but the documentation is a bit sketchy.
