Does anyone know who Wallace Furlow Cheek was b. 9/11/1898 for whom Cheek Memorial Baptist Church in Americus, Georgia was named? No one at the church seems to know. I found him on 1910 census with his mother, Dollie Cheek, already a widow. I can't find him on the 1900 census anywhere, but he had a younger brother named Ralph W., b. 1914 and a sister Marguarite Y., b. 1908. He was apparently buried perhaps at the Shiloh Baptist Church in Americus, GA. His WWI draft registration card is on Ancestry.com and he registered in Moultrie, Colquitt Co., GA where he was also on 1920 census. By 1930 census he was married and living in Americus, Sumter Co., GA. His wife's name was Louise and his daughter was LaVerne, age 2 years 11 months on 1930 census.
I would love to know how he was descended from Burgess Cheek, as I can't figure it out and I'm guessing that he was a great-grandson of Burgess Cheek, but I don't have more information. Thanks! We just visited Cheek Memorial Baptist Church in Americus, Sumter Co., GA and they are still rebuilding from the spring 2007 storm damage.
