Richard Cheek, loyalist?

I came across this entry in "Loyalists in the Southern Campaign," Vol. I. Anyone know who this Richard Check (Cheek?) might be?

RICHARD CHECK, private, listed in the muster of Capt. Robert GILLIES' Troop, NC Independent Dragoons, John's Island, SC, 24 Oct. 1781, 61 days pay, 25 Oct. - 24 Dec. 1781.

The North Carolina Dragoons were raised in the summer of 1781 in Wilmington, NC (New Hanover County) by Captain John GORDON. GORDON was killed in a skirmish and was replaced by Captain Robert GILLIES. After the evacuation of Wilmington, the unit was moved to Charleston, South Carolina. Capt. GILLIES was killed in a skirmish with Francis MARION ("the Swamp Fox") outside of Charlestown on August 29, 1782. Shortly thereafter the troop was broken up and the effective men were drafted into the South Carolina Royalists.

I don't know of any Cheek (or Check) families in the Wilmington NC area during the Revolutionary period.

Rebecca
