Rufus is a "hatched" person, I can not find proof of his parents, he was born 10 Apr 1888(per WWI & Census) in Knoxville TN he died in West Virginia 3 June 1937. On his death cert. it lists his mother as "Martha Cheathem" from Knoxville, TN and father as "Rufus A Cheathem" from "Spain". Rufus, when alive said he was "spanish/german" The "A" is supposed to stand for "Adolf/Adolph/Adolphus"??? He also stated his parents were teachers. None of this info has been documented, and is family hearsay.
I have found a Martha Sharp and Rufus A Cheathem who marry in June 1888 Knoxville TN, they are listed as "black" All the proven documents for my Rufus list him as "white". Which could explain the "Spain" story.? I have not been able to show Martha Sharp & Rufus Cheathem as having a son named "Rufus".
My Rufus worked in the "Mingo White Star Mine" in Mingo Co, West Virginia. He may have been married to a "Nora Worley" as I have found no proof but family hearsay. If ANYONE has info on the Martha Sharp & Rufus in Knoxville, TN or Rufus A. Cheathem born in TN, 10 Apr 1888,PLEASE contact me. I am open to any suggestions, I'm at a loss.
