What kind of book are you looking for? Fully dedicated to Nicolas' biography or family history...
I wrote (in French) a book, in 1999, called "Cousins des Amériques" which is quite extensive, 1142 pages, with thousands of people in the index (around 8000) a lot of pictures, maps, etc. Half of it is dedicated to the Chauvin's family. It traces it as far as mid 1500s in France. One full chapter is about Nicolas CHAUVIN LA FRÉNIÈRE, his biography. However if this the only thing you're interested in, it's only 12 pages full letter size.
Nevertheless, this is the good news, the bad news is: the book is out of print! You may find it in some libraries in the US. I have also published at the same time a CD-Rom with the same content which is still available... if this is convenient for you. You can have a look at
Mandatory: you must be able to read some French or have access to somebody to help you with the translation.
Now, if you're only looking for something precise, just ask, I'll see if I have the answer!
Kind regards
Patrick Binet
