The many Chauvin families originally from Union La., now called Convent, La., St. James Parish, are descendents of Jacques Augustin Chauvin, born June 16, 1773 in St. Pierre, (formerly province of Picardy, France, near Calais), who came to St. Charles Parish, Louisiana in late 1790's with his 68 year old mother; his brother Pierre Francois Chauvin, born January 20, 1756, stayed in France and later married Antoinette Ghier in August 1799. Other brothers and sisters were Marie Joseph Chauvin born June 7, 1757; Pierre Isidore, born January 12, 1759 and died September 13, 1759; Pierre Sanson Chauvin born November 25, 1763; and Levine Martine born November 12, 1765 and died November 2, 1766. Further information on these family members is not known. Jacques Augustin Chauvin married Rose Aspasie Mayer, (german ancestry), May 17, 1808, from St. John Parish -- he was killed in December 31, 1821, Mobile, Alabama, buried in St. Michael's cemetery on August 17,1850 in Convent, La., after being exhumed in Mobile by his three (3) sons, (Jacques Martin Chauvin, (March 22, 1809-1878), Louis Chauvin Sr., (1813-January 28,1851), and Eugene Chauvin, (October 25, 1814-December 8, 1875), all of Union, La. Jacques Augustin Chauvin's wife died in Union, La.in 1865. Pierre Chauvin's father was Martin Chauvin, born around 1676, (location unknown), married Jeanne Garnier, (native of Gourge, France), on June 28, 1717 in Gourge, France. Martin Chauvin's father was Jacques Chauvin who married Jeanne Bichon of Saint Loup, France. Today descendents are scattered all over US. Never could link the above Chauvin family with the other, older Chauvin Families in the USA, formerly from France; Canada; Kaskaskia, Illinois; Biloxi, Mississippi; Mobile, Alabama; New Orleans, La.; etc.
