I can't answer your question but Robert Chancey (who posts on the Chancey Family Forum) might be able to help.
"Jeremiah" entered the Chancy/Chancy family from Jeremiah Symons (d. 1713). Deborah Symons (his daughter) married William Chancey (d. 1748), who had a son Jeremiah, who had a son William... It could be that a Jeremiah Chancey/Chauncey, born 1782, came from somewhere in this line.
