Morning Chuck..
I am studying myself about the DNA and mutations, etc. This was rather recently that the Labs are beginning to lean in that direction. But, it does appear they are on-track..as CNN and other medical news outlets are now indicating other mutations of the male gene in middle age and upward men.
To my knowledge, there has been no further trace of Charles Chancy in the Jamestown area. Unless he left there (and where would he and family have gone to)? they most likely did not survive. I have found other early Chancy/Chancey surnames in that same general region, there is a record of two Chancey male births in New Kent County, VA. John Chancey was born (Christening: 26 Apr 1767 St. Peter's Parish, New Kent, Virginia) March 17, 1767 and his brother William was born August 05, 1769 to William and Mary Chancey of that area. That..of course is over 100 years after Charles in Jamestown. It would be really great to locate a descendant of that Charles...even if we could find a male relative in the old country...but that would take some serious genealogy!

I did a search of the forum for mutation, and middle age mutation. The link above has some interesting reading back into 2004. It is, of course noted by non geneticists like you and I, so..it should not be read as factual..however, some of the forum members appear to be quite well informed..
