Greetings. I believe my grandparents are both from Militello di Rosmarino: Vincenzo Sidoti & Maria (maiden name Faraci -possible alternate spelling "Farace"?) Vincenzo was born 25 JUN 1899 (his mother's maiden surname was Terrano) and Maria was born 23 SEP 1896. They were married in Militello but came to Cleveland, Ohio about 9 years apart. Vincenzo was a shoemaker. According to my father, Vincenzo Sidoti originally came to America in 1923 with the intention of making some money and then returning to Militello. My grandmother decided it was best to stay behind so she could care for their young child and to assist her aging mother. After arriving in Cleveland my grandfather decided he liked America and tried to convince Maria to come over too. However, she resisted the idea, being torn between obligations to her mother and child and the desire to join her husband. Several years passed until their child suddenly became ill with scarlet fever and died. Maria could no longer bear to remain in Militello and finally joined Vincenzo in Cleveland in 1932. Vincenzo was known to have resided and/or worked near Euclid Hts. Blvd., Poe Ave., E. 106th & Eliot and E. 176th & Harvard in Cleveland (the only house I remember). Vincenzo and Maria had three children but only one survived (my father, Vincent J. Sidoti, Jr.) Maria died in 1979 in Cleveland after a short illness. Vincenzo re-married a year later in 1980 to Rose Geraci in Mission Hills, California. Unfortunately his second marriage was brief and he died there in 1981. My father has been to visit some cousins in Sicily a couple of times but I don't know any of their names. He also reports having some cousins in Buenos Aires, Argentina. My grandfather also had a half brother named Joseph Sidoti. Joseph also came to Cleveland with his wife Carmelina and I believe last resided on Corlett Ave. They had two sons, Raymond and also another son named Vincent whom they called "Jimmy" (my father's nickname was also "Jimmy"). Raymond, I believe, is still alive, married to Sue Sidoti and I believe still works or last worked as a violin professor in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. I am attempting to gather more information about my father's side of the family so please feel free to reply to this post if you think there may be connections to the Sidotis you know.
